Kris Sheppard: Welcome to Mouse Scouts, the show dedicated to bringing you Disney Park tips, inspiration, and family-friendly fun. My name is Kris…
Megan Sheppard: …and I’m Megan…
K: and in this episode, zero, zero, zero, we are just going to introduce ourselves. Which we kind of just did like two seconds ago. (laughs)
So, yeah, my name is Kris, I’m a graphic designer by day, by night I’m a magician, I perform at restaurants and I do fun things like that, performing at the tables sleight-of-hand magic. And for the past couple of years I have also been doing podcasting which had been kind of fun and I’m really excited to be behind the mic with my wife for the very first time talking about something that both of us love and that is Disney, visiting Disney Parks, so everybody meet my beautiful wife, Megan!
M: Hi! (laughter)
K: So tell us a little bit about some of your interests here as well. know one of the things you really like doing is sewing and that you’ve made a number of costumes for our kids, go ahead and tell us a little bit about that for a moment.
M: Yeah, I like to sew, especially costumes and they’re the most fun when I get to really create the outfit instead of just following a pattern. I have to figure out the pieces and the sizes they need to be and such. The most creative ones I’ve done were a Kristof from Frozen for our middle child. I’ve also done Pinocchio and Peter Pan, and Captain Hook for him that were all taken from patterns but I had to alter them.
K: Some of these pictures you can see on our Instagram account which is @gomousescouts. Now, some of the other things you do, obviously we go to Disneyland a lot, we’re Annual Pass holders and that’s one of the things that we’ve had for a number of years and we really fell that we’ve been able to really streamline our trips and really been able to get the most out of them and so that’s one of the things that we’re going to be talking about.
In fact, I’m just going to go ahead and break this down right now. Our show is going to be a Disney-based podcast but it’s not going to be anything like you’ve seen up to this point. Usually whenever you’re looking for a Disney podcast, you’re going to be finding shows that are upwards of a half-hour to an hour long. Our’s is going to be shorter. We’re going to be doing about five to ten minute episodes. I like to refer to this as “stackable content.” It’s something that you can listen to when you have a few minutes. Maybe you’re on break at work or you have a few minutes away from the kids, but we’re going to be releasing three episodes per week…
M: …or even with the kids, we are a G-rated show.
K: Yup, we’re family-friendly definitely. So we’re going to be putting out three episodes per week and we’re going to be releasing on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Each of those days is going to have a different topic.
So on Mondays, we’re going to be doing episodes that talks about park tips. So fun, small, practical tips that you can keep in the back of your mind, ready for next time you take a trip to Disneyland or even to Walt Disney World in Florida. Many of the things we’re going to be offering up would work well at both. So that’ll be Monday, Park tips on Monday.
Wednesday is going to be Inspiration and so, what’s going to happen there, is I’m going to take either a quote from Walt Disney himself or maybe something from one of his movies, and take that quote and figure out a practical piece of inspiration that we can apply to our lives, or to our career, or to our business. So that will be inspiration on Wednesdays.
On Fridays is going to be a Fun Day and what we’re going to do on that is that we have recorded a number of conversations from our kids. We have three of them and they’re six years and under, basically. Our youngest isn’t talking yet, but that doesn’t mean that he won’t make appearances definitely here in the future…
M: Oh he’ll tell you “ditty, ditty” when ye wants to watch Mickey. And he says “dake” for Jake and the Neverland Pirates, so yeah, he’s definitely getting into the Disney stuff himself.
K: Exactly, but mainly right now it’s going to be our middle child getting behind the mic and our older daughter as well. Just talking about things like meeting the characters at the parks, or lately it’s been a lot of Star Wars. We have some episodes recorded already. Yeah, there’s some good stuff.
So Mondays are park tips, Wednesdays are inspiration, and Friday is family fun. So, I think that’s about it. Every once in a while, I might do an interview with someone and throw in something a little different. Those would be a little bit longer, but our main modus operandi would be these short five to ten minute shows. Do you have anything you’d like to add?
K: Alright, well with that said, I think that’s about it here. You can email us at fun [at] gomousescouts [dot] com, you can find us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, and at Disneyland as well. Also be sure to visit gomousescouts.com. We have available for you guys a free Day at Disney Resource Pack that you can pick up at our website, so be sure to check that out at gomousescouts.com. We’ll see you in the next episode. Take care!
